A getaway in Hua Hin

After exploring Pattaya twice since we moved to Thailand, we decided to travel southwest – this time to discover Hua Hin.

The trip takes about three hours from Bangkok, but visiting this small town is definitely worth it. Today, this place is considered a modern and luxurious beach getaway for those who live in Bangkok and is rapidly expanding with increasing numbers of international hotel chains offering the best service to locals, expatriates and tourists in Thailand.

The resort

The Amari Hua Hin is beautiful vacation spot located next to the Gulf of Thailand. We spent three nights in this resort and enjoyed every minute. The beauty of this resort is in the way it’s structured: it looks like a small compound where the accommodation surrounds a large garden where the pools are also located.

The corner of the large pool includes a Jacuzzi, located right next to the small cabanas which are great to keep all of your family items in one area. The resort also offers a kids pool and a pool bar (I forgot to take pictures of the kids pool!)

 Accommodation

The hotel offers different accommodation options suitable for families. My favourite part was the extra queen size bed that was available in the corner of the room. This bed was totally unexpected, and it’s ideal to accommodate two young kids. With this, a family of four can easily fit in one room. These types of rooms are available with a large king size bed for parents, or with double beds like in the image below.

I asked the hotel to show me a different type of room that could be an alternative for families, and the staff showed me what they call the ‘Family Suite,’ which offers two rooms, one of them containing a small living room.

 Restaurants

The hotels offers different restaurants, and the full list can be found on their website. During our stay, we tried out four of the restaurants:

  • Mosaic: Where breakfast is served. This restaurant has indoor seating and a large terrace for those who prefer to sit al-fresco.
  • The pool bar: Where sandwiches, salads and some main courses are served. This is a great option for those enjoying a relaxing day at the pool
  • The Reef Deli and Wine Bar: This restaurant opens at night and offers indoor and outdoor seating options.
  • Coral Lounge Lobby Bar: This restaurant is beautifully designed and decorated, and is great for having an afternoon tea. If you happen to have young kids, keep reading for a great idea to keep your kids busy while you enjoy your afternoon tea!

The Kids Club

I saved the best for last. When we choose a hotel or resort for our getaways with an energetic two year-old, we try to find the ones that offer a fun environment and options for my daughter to play. This resort offers a safe area for young kids, in a supervised environment.

Note: The Kids Club happens to be just opposite the fitness centre in case you’re in the mood for a workout.
